Wanna go for a Swim?
OURAY, Colo. (UPI) -- Guests at a hotel in Ouray, Colo., said they were surprised when a "cute, little cinnamon bear" walked onto hotel grounds and got into the pool with them. Ryan Hein, general manager of the Best Western Twin Peaks Motel in Ouray, said guests were lounging Thursday night when the "cute, little cinnamon bear walked into our pool area and decided to take a dip," the Grand Junction (Colo.) Daily Sentinel reported. "He must have needed his muscles soothed," Hein joked. "He just jumped in for a little bit, and then crawled his way out." Hein said it is not unusual for bears to wander onto the hotel's property because it borders wilderness. "The bears seem not to be aggressive, but you never know. We're doing what we can to keep our guests safe," Hein said. Copyright 2008 by United Press International

Library Fines
DENVER (UPI) -- A Denver man is facing jail time and $53,549 in library fines for checking out about 1,400 books and DVDs and selling many of them online, officials said. Thomas Pilaar, 34, received a 10-year prison sentence Tuesday for illegally selling library items on the Internet, The Denver Post reported. About 500 books and DVDs were found when Pilaar was arrested last year for a separate incident, the newspaper said. Officials said he used seven library cards to obtain the items from libraries in Denver, Douglas County, Aurora, Colo., and Littleton, Colo. The Denver district attorney's office prosecuted Pilaar, the Post said. Copyright 2008 by United Press International

Election Day
PILLSBURY, N.D. - Officials in Pillsbury, N.D., said none of the approximately 25 village residents showed up to vote in a recent election. Pillsbury Mayor Darrel Brudevold, who ran unopposed in last week's election, said all of the community's residents were too busy with work to vote, KFYR-TV, Bismark, N.D., reported Monday. The Barnes County auditor said the no-show election means all of the incumbent officers, including the mayor and his alderwoman wife, Ruth, will be allowed to keep their jobs or appoint their own replacements until the next election.
Graduation Day
FORT WORTH, Texas (UPI) -- Officials at a Fort Worth, Texas, high school said a graduating class that includes 10 sets of twins and one set of triplets may be a world record. The North Crowley High School senior class, which graduated Wednesday night, includes six sets of identical twins, four sets of fraternal twins and one set of triplets -- surpassing the record of eight sets of twins in a single graduating class that was included in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported. School administrators said they have submitted the information to Guinness and are waiting to hear back. Copyright 2008 by United Press International
